FURTHER to correspondence concerning the neglect of elderly people in hospital. I would like to add comments.

I have a friend who is still nursing and some of her patients are elderly. She says she has worked out why patients are uncared for – she does overtime to catch up on paperwork. And then it all has to be put on the computer.

She has been called in on her days off to update her computer skills. There is little time left for patient care when computers were introduced. They were supposed to ease the nurses’ burden. The sooner bureaucracy is removed from the wards the better.
