AFTER reading a report in the Evening Telegraph (June 22), I have to voice my opinion.
I am referring to a court case in which the judge gave the defendant a "chance."
The statement which was read out in court said that the defendant harassed his victim who was having a quiet drink with his girlfriend.
It was said the defendant walked away initially, but returned and struck the man with a rock or brick.
He fell to the floor, but then was punched, causing such injuries that the man's girlfriend thought her boyfriend was dead.
I find it appalling that a judge could give this man a "chance" when he had caused such serious injuries.
I wonder how this judge would feel if the victim had been her son or relative?
Law and order in this country is a complete and utter farce.
I am afraid that this country is on the slippery slope to nowhere.
