AS railway cable theft happens at night, I am surprised that stop and search has not been employed. There can’t be that many medium and small vehicles driving around the back roads.
If the control panels at Preston/Manchester are monitored, a circuit break should show up. Then an ‘all police cars’ alert could trigger stop and searches, static checkpoints on motorways and mobile patrols on back roads.
