I am glad the public health directors are taking a stance to phase out the use of trans fats or trans fatty acids.
It is more commonly labelled as Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil or fat and should not be mistaken for the solid blocks of vegetable oil, fat or Palm Oil on sale.
If they are used they are found in the ingredients in biscuits, chocolates and bakery products and are ordinary vegetable oil, chemically modified in industry to change the behaviour of the oil and the texture of the finished items.
There is a clear association with cardio-vascular disease and attention should always be paid to the ingredients list on these items.
They are still generally found in some imported products in the shops. I am inclined to throw any product back on the shelf if I encounter them.
