AS I am writing this letter, I find myself in a flurry of emotions ranging from utter disbelief, outrage and absolute disgust with the lack of bus service in Blackburn.

When I moved to Blackburn in March 2006, I found the public transportation adequate enough to discourage my husband buying me a car.

The bus ran every hour, I could plan around that.

The bus took me to the town centre shops. Taxis and trains were also readily available.

The bus route was Revidge Road on to Preston New Road, so I registered myself and my husband with a GP on Preston New Road; registered with a dentist on Preston New Road; booked all appointments with a hairdresser on Preston New Road. That was the route of bus 13.

Now I find myself struggling to catch a bus near Revidge Road as there is no longer any service on Revidge Road or on Preston New Road.

I can’t help but feel concerned for all the elderly neighbours I have, most of whom I met while waiting at the bus stop.

If I am struggling so much, how are they managing to get to town or other preferred destinations?

It is my understanding that the bus service was cancelled due to the insufficient amount of funds being reimbursed to Lancashire United.

Surely then, the dispute lies not with the residents of Blackburn who rely on local bus services, who deserve local bus services, who have worked and paid taxes for most of their lives and should be allowed to enjoy free local bus services.

The dispute should be between Lancashire United and the council, debating the amount of money reimbursed for bus passes.

KELLY SHAH, Revidge Road, Blackburn.
