I am not surprised that 56% of the market traders have decided not to move to the new £5 million site.

Many traders from the three day market have indicated they they do not want to commit themselves to a six day week with a large increase in rent on a five year lease. Why not move all the traders who wish to still operate three days to the existing six day market hall, which could be refurbished and move everybody else to the new site.

Many visitors to the town on a Wednesday, Friday and Saturday come to buy their meat, fruit and vegetables, bread, cheese and other food from the three day market. The old three day market building could then be demolished to make way for a new bus station. If Blackburn with Darwen loses the market people will start to shop in other places such as Preston and the bus station will not be needed.
