IN these uncertain times with people being made redundant and not much work available, it is a trick of some employers to ask a worker if they wish to become self-employed to avoid paying holiday pay, but still remain with them.

In the building trade, unless a worker receives a substantial amount of pay more to compen-sate for time off, pay their own stamp and put money away for their holidays, plus pay an accountant to look at their books at the year’s end, then it is not worth all the trouble this entails.
