THERE is a saying that the law is an ass and stories the LT published on September 3 give credence to this.

On page one we had the story of a thief who stole £7,000 from a local working men’s club, yet doesn’t have to repay any of the money and has not got a custodial sentence.

Meanwhile we have another court case on the same day, where a 16-year-old graffiti vandal was fined £1,700.

Could somebody tell me please, how many 16-year-olds have that kind of money?

How can there be such a huge discrepancy in the sentencing tariffs? It simply is illogical.
