RE the letter from Mr Paul Walsh concerning the mowing of urban grassland Local authorities are under an obligation to increase biodiversity.
The incessant and relentless mowing of grass to look like a billiard table results in a sterile, green environment.
What is required is a more gentle and sympathetic mowing regime.
If some areas were not cut until after July 1, this would enable wild flowers to bloom and set seed.
Such areas would become more interesting and varied, and would support a wider range of wild life. They just might become as attractive as the old fashioned hay meadows!
