MOST pictorial representations of Great Harwood feature our Town Gate clock and the presently defunct Town Hall.

Hopefully the latter may soon be restored to its former glory when our new Town Council is elected and Mayor installed.

My present concerns stem from a vision of whether bendy buses residing alongside "computerised plastic vandal shelters" on Towngate will enhance the postcards of the future and be aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

After all this conservation area really is our last remaining jewel in the crown - we have no more to give you!

Not fantasy but reality. As part of their proposed rapid transport system, the council (in partnership with LCC) wants to change the face of Great Harwood by introducing two "interchanges", one on the Towngate and one on Blackburn Road which will decimate the newly created and recently completed garden.

It seems a slightly better option than the first crazy idea for buses to circumnavigate our town clock.

A public exhibition on proposed interchanges will be on display at Great Harwood library on Tuesday, June 17 between, 6pm and 8pm, for residents to discuss proposals and make comment.

With the rapid structural decline and inevitable closure of Mercer Hall baths and prime fly tipping, land available in the Britannia/Water Street area, perhaps this is a time to consider a more radical master plan for Great Harwood which includes a bus station, our new health centre, cinema, town car park and pedestrian access through to the centre of Queen Street.
