THIS letter is aimed at all dog owners who walk their dogs within a two-mile radius of The Spread Eagle at Higher Ramsgreave, particularly Saccary Lane, Primrose Hill and the main road from Mellor to the Spread Eagle.

Despite notices placed by the county council, in conjunction with Lancashire Police Authority, reminding owners to clean up after their dog has fouled the land side and footpaths, it is disgustingly clear that many feel they don't need to.

Each day I walk my dog in this area and am really disgusted that in this day and age dog owners continue to let their dogs foul.

Often I have to walk in the road to avoid the mess they leave, which is rather dangerous considering the speed of the traffic on the main road.

But quite simply I just can't imagine why these individuals can stand and allow the dog to foul and then not clean up.

I wonder why they have dogs, or why they think it is acceptable to behave in this way.

Many of the owners no doubt are respectable people and I suppose they would not admit to their habit. So please, you know who you are, take responsibility. You are not above cleaning up after your dog - I expect if it fouls in your house or garden you don't leave it for others to tread in, so what's the difference when walking in lovely countryside?
