YET again we have recently witnessed another serious accident, resulting in loss of life on the notorious A59 near Mellor Brook.
This resulted in the A59 being closed and five hours of bumper to bumper traffic on Branch Road, Mellor Brook.
BAE Systems were quick to inform us that proposed changes to this road should make it safer The truth is, however, that these road changes are only taking place because as BAE and other local industries extend their workforce, the traffic using this and other local roads will increase greatly.
Concerns by locals have been, in the main, ignored.
The cheaper option, changing the existing road, has been approved, but will this be adequate?
Would a new road across aerodrome land, with only left turn entrance and exit points, be a better long-term solution?
May I also mention that the fairly new 30mph speed limit on Branch Road, Mellor Brook is being totally ignored by many drivers.
How long will it take before a camera or traffic calming measure be employed here?
Finally, how many more accidents will there be before the above issues are addressed?
MELLOR BROOK RESIDENT.
