I HAVE been following the comments re the dangerous headstones at Pleasington Cemetery, Blackburn.
The latest, from J Collins, directly challenged any councillors to accompany the writer to Pleasington Cemetery.
It will interesting to find out how many councillors respond. Perhaps J Collins will be kind enough to let us all know by way of a second letter. The reason for my interest is because I asked my local councillor over a week ago to investigate the suggestion of a local monumental mason that the main problem was caused by poor quality materials used by our local council. I still await a response.
J Collins is correct, the situation will not seem trivial to elderly people who might not be in a position to afford the repairs, and who are seriously worried.
Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council elected to test the headstones at Pleasington and did not hesitate to stick notices on the dangerous headstones. A local monumental mason has declared his opinion of the issue, is it not time for the council to respond?
Will any local councillor take up the challenge of J Collins without delay? It will be interesting to find out.
