One of the main requirements for the Muslim community is to bury their deceased as soon as practically possible.

This has been facilitated in Blackburn with Darwen for many years by some of the main service providers.

I, in my capacity as general secretary of the Lancashire Council of Mosques, i.e. on behalf of the 28,000-30000 Muslim community of Blackburn with Darwen, would like to express the community's appreciation in thanking the following service providers for all their help and support:.

The hospital staff who are extremely helpful. This includes nurses, and doctors as well as the general office.

The mortuary technicians (Lorraine and Gemma) are likewise exceedingly helpful. They go beyond the call of professional duty to assist.

We also are very grateful to the coroner (Michael Singleton) for the help and advice he provides. He is one the most helpful coroners I have known. The Muslim community recognises and respects his work.

Blackburn Cemetery office is also very helpful.

Last but not least the registrar. We have been provided with excellent support by Blackburn with Darwen Council Registrar Service (legal dept under Linda Comstive). It provides an excellent service for not only the Muslim community, but also the wider community. The Muslim community is indebted to all the above service providers.

May I once again convey an huge thank you for all your help and support.

Partnership working at its best. You have all made a real difference to the needs of the Muslim community. Thank you once again.

COUN SALIM MULLA, Secretary of Lancashire Council of Mosque and Muslim Burial Committee.
