BRITAIN is going veggie - it's official! Percentage wise, there are more than twice as many vegetarians in the UK as there are in the whole of America.

Viva! - the national campaigning vegetarian group - says the UK leads the way in making ethical choices about what we eat.

More of us than ever before are going veggie to save lives - the average Brit can save up to 11,047 animals in a lifetime by simply not eating them.

Many are cutting out meat for environmental reasons - especially as livestock now cause more global warming gases than the world's transport system.

Going veggie also fights poverty - by allowing people in developing countries to eat crops rather than feeding them to our farmed animals.

This month, as part of Viva!'s third annual Britain Goes Veggie Month,' local supporters are having stalls up and down the country, with everything you could ever want to know about going veggie or simply cutting down on your meat.

Viva!'s It's Time to Go Veggie! magazine is also available free to all.
