RE E Eastham (Lancashire Telegraph August 7), sending out an SOS to keep Blackburn Sea Cadets afloat.

I totally agree. I have links with the unit and they are outstanding. They are totally self-supporting except for the loan of uniforms and one boat.

The boys and girls are a credit to Blackburn. Staff receive no pay and have given years of service working with young people. Some of young people go on to serve their country in the Royal Navy.

Not only are they taught team work and discipline but they also thoroughly enjoy themselves and are always there to help with civic duties such as taking the new Mayor to church, providing a guard on Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph in Corporation Park. They also help with the poppies appeal.

To see this unit close would be a disaster and the youngsters would be devastated.

So please is there anyone at all who can help us with funding or donations of goods and assistance with our charity shop in Penny Street from August 26?

It would be much appreciated. Please help us to keep TS Mohawk afloat. For details please ring 01254 812694.
