I AM a baliff for Withnell Angling Club. This club recently acquired a stretch of the River Darwen that runs through some beautiful countryside.

However, before the river reaches this picturesque spot it has the misfortune of running through Blackburn and Darwen.

Whilst visiting my club stretch following the recent heavy rains I saw two fridges floating down the river.

I often see car tyres in these waters as well and at my last count there were 40 tyres in a three quarter mile stretch.

Illegal flytipping will continue until councils start to allow disposal of such items at their recycling centres.

My dream is to one day see the River Darwen, once on of the best salmon and sea trout rivers, restored to this former condition.

However, until councils help and/or alter what items can be accepted at the recycling centres, I think it will only remain a dream.
