WE have two daughters, one in Norfolk and one in Newcastle, whom we often visit.
We also go to Wiltshire, my home, and have recently been to Cornwall. They all have a litter problem but not nearly so bad as Blackburn and Darwen. They all remark on it when they visit us.
One of the reasons I believe to be the fortnightly bin collections, with no collections of extra bags. Families with children cannot cope, so dump their extra waste.
The other reason is that the laws against litter louts are not enforced. If they were made to litter pick, not just in the town centre, but in residential and rural areas too, they would think twice about dropping litter again.
The same goes for irresponsible dog owners who let their dogs foul the pavements and parks.
Twice the council have promised that someone would come and see us, and twice we have been let down. They are in "important" meetings. Meanwhile, we are sinking under a sea of rubbish.
