I ENJOYED reading the stores in the LT (April 16) concerning the semi-final at Old Trafford, but for a paper that calls itself the Lancashire Telegraph, I am sorry to say you need a lesson on the boundaries of our historic county.

I refer to the article beginning with the words, "Rovers fans travelled back to Lancashire dejected - but proud of their team."

I, too, went to Manchester to cheer on Rovers, but the only time I left Lancashire was when I travelled over the River Mersey to Cheshire, to park my car in Sale.

I then caught the Metrolink back into Lancashire and got off at the station for Old Trafford, which is adjacent to the home ground of our county cricket team.

To suggest Manchester is not in Lancashire is the same sort of daft thinking which looks to be behind the "Welcome to Lancashire" signs we see when leaving Blackburn, since unitary status.

We are all proud of our team, but we are also a part of what must be the most successful football county in the country.

The two Manchester football teams and the two in Liverpool are all still first affiliated to Lancashire FA. So please do not reduce the size of our county particularly when many of us are looking forward to the cricket season and hoping we will see the County Championship return to Old Trafford.
