TWO recent news items caught my eye, the racist text message by Steve Broomhead, of NWRDA, and the ongoing controversy surrounding Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother.

What Shilpa is going through, most Asians have been through all their lives.

Most Asians would probably see the funny side of Steve Broomhead's text message.

It's got to the stage where we have become immune to the racist slurs.

However, most Asians find the Muslim taunts more offensive and personal than the "Paki" comments.

The irony is, by law we are protected against the "Paki slurs", but not the "Muslim slurs" which we find more hurtful.

We'd much rather have religious protection than racial.
