WITH Reference to the story about superbike ace Carl Fogarty and motorcycling (LT January 19).
Although I applaud Steve McQueen and his motorcycle achievements, I point out that it was Jeff Smith, originally from Colne, who actually made the jump over the fence in the film The Great Escape.
Don't let's forget another Lancastrian, Geoff Duke, of road racing fame.
