I do not begrudge anyone who is in genuine need of benefits. However, probably 80-90% of people on benefits could afford the council tax rise if they cut their cloth accordingly.
When my water, gas, electricity, home insurance, car insurance, council tax, car tax bills all go up and my wage stagnates, I have to deal with it. I either use less or spend less. People on benefits are just going to have to bite the bullet and do the same.
I like this new idea of everyone on benefits paying council tax. If they don’t like it. they can go and live elsewhere.
