I CAN'T agree with Patricia Cooper, Mr Leaver and Mr Stemp about their views on leisure facilities in Darwen (various recent letters to the Lancashire Telegraph).

Mrs Cooper says she wants the leisure centre to "remain on its current site with all existing facilities."

As I understand, the new pools, gym, health spa, aerobics and other facilities will be bigger and better than the old facilities, so there would be very little space for a sports hall.

The current pool is only 25 yards long so isn't suitable for competitions, training etc. Everyone I've spoken to wants a better main pool and changing facilities.

A brand new sports hall is being built at Darwen Vale and another new one is to be built as part of the new Academy school at the Redearth site adjacent to the town centre. Instead of the two sports halls we have in Darwen there will be three. How can anyone complain about that?

Also, if a sports hall were to be built on the current site then there would be no room for car parking. If that was to happen then no doubt Mrs Cooper, Mr Leaver and Mr Stemp would be the first to moan.
