THE former chief executive of Lancashire County Council has been awarded an honorary fellowship at Lancaster University.

Gordon Johnson, who was the clerk and chief executive to Lancashire County Council from 1991 to 2000, was one of five people awarded fellowships this year.

Mr Johnson, who is the Constable of Lancaster Castle, played a central role in the success of the innovative Lancashire County Enterprises, with its important contribution to economic development in the county.

He also became the university’s deputy pro-chancellor between 2002 and 2010.

The Chancellor, Sir Chris Bonington, presented the fellowships at a dinner attended by HRH Princess Alexandra.
