COMEDIAN Jim Bowen is recovering in hospital after a mild stroke.
The former Bullseye host, 73, was taken ill in the early hours of Friday morning at home in Lancaster.
He will remain at the Royal Lancaster Hospital while he undergoes physiotherapy.
Wife Phyllis said: “Jim has just had a very mild stroke and is doing well now with physio.
“Everybody, from the paramedics, to the nurses and ladies who bring tea round have been fantastic and Jim wants them to know how much he appreciates that.”
It is not known how much longer he will remain in hospital.
Blackburn Rovers fan Jim was brought up in Padiham and went to school in Accrington.
It is thought that Bowen, who rose to fame on ITV talent showcase The Comedians after honing his act in pubs and clubs in northern England, was taken ill on the early hours of Friday.
In 1981 he landed his best-known role, as the presenter of ITV's darts-themed quiz Bullseye.
His "super, smashing, great" and "now look what you could have won..." catchphrases have helped turn him into a cult figure.
