HAL Bagot, president of the Lancaster Canal Trust, led a tribute to the late canal volunteer Keith Tassart at the trust's annual meeting.
Keith, 77, died in June and was a devoted supporter of efforts to restore the canal's Northern Reaches. The Morecambe man was also a farm manager and conservationist.
Keith's widow Jean, daughter Vicky and son David have thanked everybody who sent messages to them. They said they were sure he would be "keeping a watchful eye on all the wonderful canal volunteers" and hoping they would "carry on with the great work which he very much loved being a part of".
