TWO appliances from Hyndburn Fire Station were called out to a fire in the kitchen of an empty cafe in Oswaldtwistle earlier this evening.

The crews were despatched about 6pm.

There was no-one in Gobbiners Cafe on Union Road at the time of the blaze or in the flat above.

Watch manager Emma Price said: "Four breathing apparatus were used to put the fire out.

"It appears to have started in a fryer.

"The fire was contained to the kitchen which suffered damage,

"The rest of the cafe was heavily smoke-logged.

"There was no danger to adjoining properties or the empty flat above and obviously no casualties.

"An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way."
