A SCHOOL has got into the festive spirit by performing its own version of a Christmas classic.

Accrington Academy gave the perfect start to the season when it staged its own version of ‘Elf – the musical’.

Based on the smash hit film starring Will Ferrell, ‘Elf – the Musical’ tells the story of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s sack and is transported back to the North Pole.

Featuring students from Years 7 to 13, including the Sixth Form’s Harry Pickering in the lead role, rehearsals for Accrington Academy’s production of ‘Elf – the Musical’ started back in September.

It was organised by head of drama Nicky Grace and drama teacher Vicky Thornber.

Head of School Nicola Palmer said: “The academy’s annual production is always a highlight of the school year and this time around was no exception.

"A big thank you to all involved for their hard work and dedication and for delivering another successful show.”

The cast displayed their performance to a packed house at the school on two nights, as well as a special matinee performance for local primary school children.

The production followed Buddy’s journey as he comes to terms with his enormous size and poor toy-making abilitie to head to New York City to find his real father and discover his true identity, at the same time helping New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.
