A VILLAGE football pitch that was resurfaced is ready for use.

The pitch, next to The Rock Inn, Tockholes Road, Tockholes, had become a ‘dangerous mud heap’ according to parish council chairman Glynn Woon.

But after £3,500 was raised, the work was carried out.

Although the resurfacing was completed some weeks ago, the weather had left the surface unusable.

A parish council spokesman said: “The new pitch is now ready for use.

“We apologise for the delay in opening it. Believe it or not it was due to the lack of rain. After it had been re-turfed it was too dry so unfortunately it did not settle as quickly as we had hoped.

“We are sure it will have been worth waiting for.”
