TURTON Tower will receive a prestigious food award later this month.

The tearoom at the 15th century house has been recognised by the Taste Lancashire award scheme for its quality food and use of locally sourced produce, visitor facilities and hospitality.

Local items on the menu include Lancashrie cheeses sourced by Mark Cleggs, of Longridge, tomato and date chutney from Reedy's of Oswaldtwistle, and Chorley cakes.

Fiona Jenkins, from Lancashire County Museum Service, said: "We are absolutely delighted to be recognised for our tearoom - the whole team has worked very hard.

"We are essentially a tearoom but we do try to offer a wide variety of choice.

"We want to work with the local community and celebrate what Lancashire is and what Lancashire can produce."

The Taste Lancashire Quality Assured award will be presented on Monday, April 21 by Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board chairman Lesley Lloyd.

Sampling of the tearoom menu will be available on the day.
