A VETERAN councillor has pleaded with people to wear facemasks in the street in the busy run up to Christmas.
Darwen East Liberal Democrat Cllr Paul Browne said that when he want into the town centre many shoppers were removing them when they left stores.
He said: "It's ludicrous.
"Our town centre streets are busy with Christmas shoppers and people should keep their masks on to stop the spread of coronavirus.
"We know there is likely to be a spike in Covid-19 cases over the festive season so people should wear face covering in the street to try and keep themselves and everyone else safe.
"I know it is not the law but it is common sense.
"The only way we will get out of tier three is if people where their masks in public places both intdoors and outdoors."
