An Euxton woman is taking on the distance of the English Channel for charity.

Chris Butterworth will swim the 22 mile distance of the channel at a local swimming pool to help raise £500,000 for spinal cord injury charity, Aspire.

The 46-year-old, who lives in Euxton, will be swimming the distance at Vitalia Health and Fitness Club, in Park Hall, in Charnock Richard and must complete the challenge by Sunday, December 7.

She said: “I enjoy swimming and try to swim at least 3 times per week as I find it relaxes my mind and re-charges my batteries.

“If I can also raise some funds for a worthwhile charity whilst doing something that keeps me fit and healthy, then so much the better.”

Rosie Cotton, events fundraiser at Aspire, said: “Every year the money raised from the Aspire Channel Swim goes towards helping people with spinal cord injuries.

“Aspire makes a difference by providing a number of practically based projects designed to ensure that the spinally injured have many of their immediate and future needs met, so that they can start and continue to live their lives as independently as possible”.
