POLICE are appealing for information after a £1,400 bicycle was stolen from outside a Chorley supermarket.

Officers have reviewed CCTV images from Asda in Clayton Brook and want to speak to the man pictured in connection with the theft of the Correra mountain bike .

PC Craig McCabe said: “This will have upset the victim as he used it on a daily basis to get to and from work.

“This bike was locked up as the owner went into the store and it is believed a man has cut the lock and then put it in the rear of a red Fiat Punto car.

“Later the same car was seen by police in Walton-le-Dale and after a short pursuit, the car was abandoned on Fishwick View and the man was not in the vehicle.

“We don’t know if the bicycle was in the car during the pursuit but nothing was in the car when it was found.”

The incident took place on July 15 and the car has been searched to try to find out who the man was.

PC McCabe added: “If anyone has information related to the vehicle concerned or even knows the man in the picture they should contact us.

“People who own bikes and are concerned about leaving them when they are left locked up can get their bikes marked at one of our regular marking events. Check out our social media channels for updates of upcoming dates and times for such events.

“Anyone with information about the incident should call 101 and use the log number 0500 of July 15.”
