AN eyesore mill in Burnley could make way for 117 new homes and an ecology park if developers can convince councillors about a canalside regeneration scheme.

Blueprints for the demolition of the former Burco Dean premises, at Waterside Mill in Rosegrove, also include a sports pavilion.

The Waterside Park development, put forward by Glen Dimplex Home Appliances, will not affect the site’s West Works, which is still used to manufacture radiators and boilers.

But since the firm’s partial relocation to the Network 65 business park at Hapton, the application site has been empty and now appears increasingly rundown.

Rosegrove councillor Lynne Briggs believes the development could be welcomed by the community as it could resolve existing difficulties with fly-tipping.

“People have taken to throwing their rubbish there so if that problem is solved then I think the neighbours would be happy,” added Coun Briggs.

The developers want to build 40 four-bedroom and 24 three-bedroom homes, with 53 apartments, from one bedroom to three bedrooms, arranged in a crescent.
