A STUDENT has been nominated for an international photography award for images of Burnley homes in need of regeneration.
Marianne Van Loo toured Burnley Wood to capture streets caught up in the Elevate programme.
She entered her work in a competition entitled Document, by the War on Want charity and judges have included her in a shortlist of five for the top prize.
Blackpool-based Marianne’s pictures detail derelict homes in the Burnley Wood area against a backdrop of how the collapse of the cotton industry affected the town.
She said: “For me the houses speak of a community that once was vibrant and now has been displaced.
"Families have lived and worked here for decades, and the houses are a silent record of people’s history. "The graffiti conveys a stark visual message of how people today feel about living in this area.”
The winner of the competition will be announced on January 28 and all the finalists' entries are currently on show at London’s HOST gallery.
