A GREAT Harwood couple have celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss.

Edna Briggs, 78, and husband Marshall, who is 80, got together after Marshall came in to carry out some work on Edna’s family fruit and veg shop in Whalley.

Marshall, a former carpenter, and Edna, a former shop worker, said that their romance blossomed from just a nod given by Marshall to Edna, and they married a few years later.

They celebrated the diamond anniversary with friends from caravan rallies in Southport on Saturday.

Now they are due to have a family celebration in Rishton this coming Saturday, where they will be joined by their bridesmaid and other members of their wedding party.

The couple have two daughters, Sheila Bennet, 59, and Tracy Joynes, 40, and a son Richard Briggs, 56.

They have nine grand-children and five great grandchildren.
