Residents in one Blackburn neighbourhood say they are being blighted by drug dealers and drivers ‘racing’ on their street.

They said they have now taken it upon themselves to film and share details of anyone seen dealing drugs or taking part in anti-social behaviour on their street.

Police said they were aware of concerns in the area and had already seized one vehicle and had ‘targeted disruptive activity’.

Blackburn with Darwen Council said an investigation would be carried out with regards to the issue of road safety. One resident of the Crosshill Road area said ‘enough was enough’.

He said: “This has always been a great community to live in and we always look out for one another. “This has gone on for far too long and they are parking up and dealing drugs right in front of our homes. And we are now saying as a community we won’t allow this anymore.

“Cars are parking up and it tends to happen at one side of the road or the other. They are now also parking close to the cul-de-sac and people can see it happening as they leave.

“It tended to happen in the evenings but now it happens all times of the day. As kids are playing in the garden they are parking up right in front of them.

“We will be sharing CCTV and phone footage with the police and local authorities.” There were also calls for the road to have traffic calming measures installed.

Another resident said: “There are certainly issues with people driving too fast down this road.

“This road is being used a rat run and we have a school nearby and elderly people who are crossing the road.

“There is no course of action but for the residents to take action themselves.

“I would also urge those who come to drop their children off for school to park responsibly. As this is making matters worse for some home owners.”

PCSO Lisa Croasdale, of the Blackburn Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We are aware of concerns relating to drug-dealing in the Wensley Fold area of Blackburn. We have carried out targeted disruptive activity in the area, including the seizure of vehicles, and increased patrols. That activity will continue.

“If you have concerns about criminal activity in your area call police on 101. In an emergency or if a crime is ongoing call 999.”

Councillor Quesir Mahmood, who represents the Wensley Fold ward, said he would be passing on the concerns to the police and relevant council departments.

He said: “These are concerns that have been raised and we would urge anyone with relevant intelligence to pass it to police.

“With regards to speeding there are traffic calming measures on Manor Road but not on here. This is something I will discuss with our community safety team and may be looked at in the future.”

A Blackburn with Darwen Council spokesperson said: “We will carry out an investigation into these claims, if any action is required this will be added to the future programme for road safety issues in the borough.”
