THE image of a suspect in the Saheel Ahmed murder inquiry has been circulated to every police force in the country.

A ‘significant number’ of officers from both Lancashire Police and Lothian and Borders Police have spent the weekend hunting Naeem Majid Butt, 37, from Johnston Street, Blackburn.

Police said he has links to Edinburgh and may try to travel to Pakistan. All ports have also been alerted.

Detective Inspector Pete Broome said: “The inquiry has been progressing with a significant number of officers from Lancashire and elsewhere in the search over the weekend.

“As well as circulating his picture nationally we are making inquiries in a number of force areas. The hunt continues and we will carry on until we get our man.”

Mr Butt is said to have an ‘easily identifiable’ cobra tattoo on his wrist, but officers said members of the public should be ‘sensible and cautious’ and not approach him.

A team of detectives from Lancashire police’s major investigation unit is currently based in Edinburgh, working with Lothian and Borders police.

The body of Mr Ahmed, 24, was found in an alleyway near Warrington Street, Little Harwood.
