SOME families and friends in East Lancashire were split with divided loyalties as England and Scotland do battle in Euro 2020 today.

It is the first time in 25 years since the Three Lions and the Tartan Army did battle in the European Championships competition and the rivalries have been adding some spice to the occasion.

As Gareth Southgate and Steve Clarke lead their two teams out at Wembley at 7pm, our readers have been in touch about their support for their chosen Anglo-Scottish feelings ahead of the showdown on Friday.

Leah Gray from Darwen has been in touch to talk about her son Albie, five, who pranked his grandad Paul Gray.

She said: "My dad was born in Scotland and came down here when he was working.

"Albie wants England to win as he was born down here while my dad wants Scotland to win.

"He watches lots of people on Youtube who do pranks and he wanted to prank his grandad.

"So he decided to put an England sticker on the back of his car.

"He was not pleased when he saw it and joked about saying not to do that again.

"We will be going to my auntie's house who is also a Scotland fan so there will be a few Scottish fans.

"Albie thinks that England will win especially with how Scotland played the other day."

Meanwhile Blackburn Rovers and Scotland legend Colin Hendry believes the players need to 'play well beyond themselves'.

Speaking at an Irn-Bru event in Glasgow, the 55-year-old said: "You have to go and do something a bit more special.

“We have some really good footballers in our team who have achieved great achievements. Kieran Tierney is absolutely ripping it up at Arsenal, John McGinn is a massive player for Aston Villa, you have Andy Robertson, of course, who has won the Premier League and the Champions League, and Scott McTominay was star man for Manchester United in the Europa League final against Villarreal although they lost.

“It is not unlike what we had in 1996 and 1998.”

Hendry, who will be in London on Friday to hand out ‘lucky pants’ emblazoned with the Irn-Bru logo to the Tartan Army, added: “We can’t lose on Friday, that is the most important thing. We could draw on Friday, beat Croatia and go through on four points but we can’t talk about Croatia, it is all about Friday night.

“I still think we have to go to Wembley on Friday night and get something from the game, we can’t leave empty handed."
