A DAUGHTER has paid tribute to her 'legendary' father, who sadly passed away just one month after learning of a terminal diagnosis.

Johnny Mason, 65, was a Mill Hill resident and well-loved by those who knew him - particularly at his local pub, the Moorgate Arms, where he was a regular.

The father-of-five was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer just five weeks ago, and his untimely death has left the local community 'in shock'.

Mr Mason's daughter, Stacey, told the Lancashire Telegraph: "Our father was an absolute legend, and loved by many. Everywhere he went, he had friends - he was the life and soul of every party.

Lancashire Telegraph:

"He will be truly missed by his five children, who all loved him dearly."

Last night (16 June), a fundraiser was held at the Moorgate Arms in Mr Mason's memory, where locals gathered and enjoyed stories about their late friend, while paying tribute.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Miss Mason added: "We all want to thank Ryan Robinson for organising the fundraiser, and the local community for their kind wishes and support during this devastating time.

"May he rest in peace."

Mr Mason was a supporter of Mill Hill FC and regularly attended games. A minutes silence was held in his memory before the Rose Bowl Cup final on Sunday - Miss Mason said she "would like to thank Graeme Shackleton for that gesture".
