A MAN found with a Russian made handgun and a machete in his car following a police chase has been jailed for six years.

Faisal Khan was spotted by police in December driving his Renault Megane towards Preston.

Police chased Khan, from Blackburn, was arrested after his car crashed with a street lamp in Dundonald Street in Preston.

Officers found a Russian-made handgun, a magazine clip with live rounds, a machete, cable ties, rubber gloves and a quantity of cash.

A subsequent search of a house in Fishwick Parade in Preston revealed a further quantity of cash.

Khan, 28, of July Street, Blackburn, admitted charges of possession of a firearm, possessing ammunition and dangerous driving and was jailed for six years at Preston Crown Court today.

Detective Constable Darren Caunce, of Preston CID, said: "We welcome today’s sentence which reflects the gravity of the offending.

"Khan’s intentions on that night may never be fully clear but it is thanks to some excellent proactive police work that led to him being stopped before he could reach his destination and carry out whatever it was that he was planning."
