A NURSING home in Burnley has unveiled plans to expand its provision to create a ‘care village’ in the town.

Bosses at Bank Hall Nursing Home, in Colne Road, want to create a three-storey sheltered care home alongside their existing premises.

If approved, the scheme would create 25 new jobs.

A spokesman for architects IW Design Services said: “The scheme reflects the applicant’s vision in creating a ‘care village’ on the doorstep of Burnley town centre.

“The proposed sheltered scheme will be run in tandem with the existing residential home, with both schemes benefiting from the on-site multi- disciplined staff.

The plan is for a development of 22 self-contained units over two and three storeys, with a minimum of 18 parking spaces.

Each of the units could accomodate either one, or two people.

The spokesman added: “The existing home has been ext-ended in the past with single and two-storey wing extensions.

“It is envisaged to continue the theme of the latest two- storey extension, incorporating high-quality materials cons-isting of decorative concrete block and clay brick facings, with a composite slate roof finish, sash-style UPVC win-dows, brick heads, art stone sills and heads.

“We have arranged for the elevation along Colne Road to mirror the character and nature of adjoining building on site, in so much as the building has a strong masonry base.”

The development control committee at Burnley Council is expected to make the final de-cision on the plans in the next few months.
