BLACKBURN with Darwen Council leader Kate Hollern has been chosen to chair the new Lancashire Police and Crime Panel which will scrutinise the Crime Commissioner for the county being elected in November.

She will also monitor police spending.

The panel will represent the views of Lancashire councils and residents to the new direclty-elected Commissioner to ensure they reflect their priorities.

Coun Hollern said: “I’m delighted that the majority of council leaders across Lancashire have chosen me to take on this important role. We need to ensure that following the police commissioner elections the views of ordinary people continue to be heard when decisions about policing are made.

“I will certainly ensure that this is the case and that the good work carried out by neighbourhood policing teams across Lancashire continues.”
