MOTORISTS in Blackburn have been offering special anti-theft number plate screws to try and reduce the number of thefts.
Neighbourhood police officers handed out more than 80 tamper-proof screw kits and spoke to 150 motorists in the Audley and Bastwell areas of the town last Wednesday.
The drive comes after a spate of number plates were stolen and then used on other vehicles to commit other offences.
Sgt Sue Bushell said: “Tamper proof screws are an extremely useful tool to help deter thieves and I hope that this initiative will help us to reduce this type of crime from occurring.
“We will be repeating this initiative throughout the coming months and I urge anyone who sees anything suspicious or who has any information about crime to contact us.”
Anyone who would like a set of number plate screws can contact their local neighbourhood policing team on 101.
