A 34-YEAR-OLD man who had a cold night while sleeping rough went into Marks and Spencer the next day and stole a duvet.
And Blackburn magistrates heard his actions would ensure a warm bed for at least 28 days as he had been recalled to prison.
Thomas Daniel Ashcroft, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to shoplifting. He was fined £65 with £15 costs which was set against time spent in custody.
Graeme Parkinson, defending, said Ashcroft had been homeless.
