AROUND 30 new jobs are set to be created when a new retailer opens in Burnley next week.

National chain Poundworld has invested £250,000 in a new outlet in the town centre. The family-owned retailer is set to open a new store in the Charter Walk shopping centre on Thursday, August 20, at 10am.

The shop, which sells more than 5,000 products, all for £1, will be opening in the Mall area of the centre, which has been undergoing investment in the last year since being taken over by Addington Capital.

Chris Edwards Junior, trading director at Poundworld, said: “We’re really delighted to be opening our first store in Burnley, creating 30 new jobs. Busy shoppers can take advantage of the great location in order to stock up on our fantastic offers and brands.

“We look forward to welcoming customers, and we hope our new store will prove a big hit with savvy shoppers in Burnley.”

The Yorkshire-based firm, founded in 1997, is planning to open a further 20 stores across the UK before the end of 2012, to add to its existing 170 outlets.

It already has stores in Accrington, Blackburn, and Nelson.
