A NEW assistant director of music has been appointed by the Chapter of Blackburn Cathedral.

Shaun Turnbull will begin work in late August and takes over from James Davy, who has been appointed director of music at Chelmsford Cathedral after six years at Blackburn.

Shaun is a former organ scholar of Lichfield Cathedral and is currently director of music at both St John’s College in Durham and Ponteland Parish Church.

Shaun, 32, is a graduate of the Birmingham Conservatoire, where he gained a BMus degree in 2003 and a Postgraduate Diploma in 2004.

He maintains a busy schedule of freelance musical activities.

He is currently the musical director of Felling Male Voice Choir, and holds the same post temporarily for the Bailiffgate Singers in Alnwick, Northumberland.

As an organist, Shaun is an Associate of the Royal College of Organists (ARCO).
