FILM and television stars took part in a walk in memory of a 21-year-old woman who took her own life because she couldn’t find a job.

Despite having 10 GCSEs, three A-levels and a place at South Bank University in London, Antonia Victoria Harrison, known as Vicky, developed depression and had become frustrated at being out of work.

To remember Vicky and raise awareness about suicide among young people, her family organised a walk leaving from Witton Park, Blackburn, to Blackpool Tower on Sunday.

Her dad Tony, from Darwen, said that This Is England film and television series actor Andrew Ellis who place Gadget and Emmerdale soap actor Jamie Shelton who appeared on the screens in May as bad boy Robbie took part in Will You... Walk With An Angel? fundraiser.

Vicky died in March 2010 after she took an overdose.

Her dad, mum Louise, 45, both from Darwen, and cousin Lauren Fogarty, 20, from Blackburn, have decided to raise awareness for the charity Parents Association the Prevention of Young Suicide in her memory.

Mr Harrison said: “If someone well known can say ‘I believe in this’ and cares enough to take part then it makes a difference, it really does. Having Andrew and Jamie on board is tremendous. They are human being and they are real people who have things they care about just like the rest of us.”

Mr Harrison said that after hearing about the fundraiser wristbands were donated by Zodiac in Burnley and irrigatedsoul.com supplied free t-shirts.

AG Barr plc gave 300 water bottles for walkers and former Blackburn with Darwen Council mayor Dorothy Walsh supplied buckets to collect sponsorship along the route.

Around 130 people signed up to do the walk to help the family reach their £10,000 goal.
