A PROMINENT Neighbourhood Watch group has been given Government funding to buy media equipment to be used by local youngsters.

The video and computer equipment has already been used by 16 children in the Brunshaw area of Burnley.

They are making videos and features for the group’s new website, and have also designed t-shirts, mugs and banners to be used on a local news video.

Gillian Atkinson, chair of the Brunshaw Neighbourhood Watch, said: “The money has enabled us to buy this equipment and we are working with CanWe solutions to create projects.

“We had two groups of children come in, the older ones learnt how to use the professional equipment and how to edit, while the younger ones designed the t-shirts and mugs.

“We will be taking the equipment through the whole of Brunshaw to allow other children to have a go and get to use it and learn about it.

“We also have semi-professional equipment which local people can use to film events in Brunshaw, or to make films about local issues and things like that.”

The Neighbourhood Watch group was first founded in the 1980s, but after lying dormant for a while it was re-established three years ago and is going from strength to strength.

Gillian said: “We are as much about community cohesion as crime prevention, we want to bring people together to look after the area and create a good feeling in the area, a bit of friendly promotion.

“We are doing okay at the moment but we always need more people to join the group and get involved.”
