A TEENAGER has been charged with the murder of his father and the attempted murder of his mother.

Jordan Ryan, 18, was arrested after Neil Ryan and his wife Debbie Ryan were found stabbed at their home in Heys Close, Blackburn, on the morning of Friday, October 7 last year.

Mr Ryan, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem examination confirmed that he died as a result of a single stab wound to his upper body.

Mrs Ryan, 41, was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment and is now said to be recovering at home.

Police officers were called to the incident by the ambulance service at around 7.50am.

Jordan was arrested a short time later on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, after armed police swooped on his grandparents’ home in Rolleston Road, Blackburn, two and a half miles away.

Since the incident he has been detained at the Royal Blackburn Hospital under the Mental Health Act.

But following talks between Lancashire Police and the Crown Prosecution Service he was charged yesterday.

The teenager appeared at Preston Magistrates’ Court before being transferred to Preston Crown Court, where the case was adjourned until a plea and case management hearing is held on June 18.

Jordan, who was studying carpentry at Blackburn College and had joined the Territorial Army, has been remanded into the care of Guild Lodge Hospital at Goosnargh.

Following his death, colleagues of Mr Ryan held a minute’s silence in his memory.

Mr Ryan was the steward at St Paul’s Working Men’s Institute, in Montague Street, Blackburn.

Before that, he and his wife were the full-time carers for their youngest son Joshua, 14, who is disabled.
